Moving Checklist
This moving checklist will make your move manageable, and you can find enough time to relax even on the moving day.
The House Shifters moving checklist is available online and can be printed (if required). We have divided this checklist into eight weeks, but you can manage the task according to the available time frame for your moving day.

8 weeks before moving
- Research for the mover
- Prepare an inventory of items
- Send formal notice to the landlord
- Start searching for a home in the new location
- Start looking for schools (if moving with kids)
7 weeks before moving
- Compare and book a mover
- Book a storage unit (if required)
- Apply for the permit to move the vehicle
6 weeks before moving
- Make travel and accommodation arrangements
- Book vehicle transportation service
- Make a list of additional expenses
5 weeks before moving
- Start decluttering and packing the belongings
- Donate or sell the items you don’t need
- Update your membership at clubs, gyms, etc.
- Pack documents like passports, birth certificates, security cards, bank statements, etc. (as the mover will not carry them on the moving truck)
- Prepare a list of packing supplies and place the order
4 weeks before moving
- Start packing items you don’t need
- Pack a bag of essentials for the first few days in the new house
- Connect with the mover to confirm the moving schedule
- Arrange disposal for hazardous items (chemicals, cleaning agents, etc.)
3 weeks before moving
- Inform utility services about the address change
- Book childcare service for the moving day
2 weeks before moving
- Book waste disposal and cleaning service after the move
- Remove nails from the wall and fill the holes
- Start disassembling furniture which is not in use
- Check for pending bills and payment
- Inform your workplace about the move and apply for leaves
1 week before moving
- Use perishable items in the refrigerator and start cleaning it
- Arrange uninstallation service for electronic appliances
- Get some cash in hand for tips and other requirements
- Track the weather updates
Moving Day
- Verify the movers’ details like licensing and permits
- Make arrangements for the weather change
- Take inventory and keep a copy with you for future reference
- Protect floors and walls from scratches
- Coordinate with the moving team
- Unpack essentials after unloading
- Introduce yourself to new neighbours
- Prepare a new house for relaxing and sleeping
